By sourcing Better Cotton, Supplier and Manufacturer Members ensure that the demand for Better Cotton reaches Better Cotton Farmers and their communities, while also enabling Better Cotton Retailer and Brand Members to achieve and advance their targets to source more sustainable materials. Members are both committed to Better Cotton and improving the resilience of the cotton supply chain.

BSCI provides a network of external accredited, experienced and independent auditing companies. Producers that meet all BSCI requirements are encouraged to go further and achieve our best practice, the SA8000 social management certification developed by Social Accountability International (SAI).
Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) is a system for ensuring that products are consistently produced and controlled according to quality standards.
The GRS sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices and chemical restrictions. The GRS is intended to meet the needs of companies looking to verify the recycled content of their products (both finished and intermediate) and to verify responsible social, environmental and chemical practices in their production.
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is an internationally recognised organic textile standard. GOTS ensures the organic status of textiles from the harvesting of the raw materials through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing all the way to labelling, in order to provide credible assurances to the consumer. The standard covers the processing, manufacturing, packaging, labelling, trading and distribution of all textiles made from at least 70 percent certified organic natural fibres.

The Higg Index is a widely used suite of tools created for the fashion industry to assess the sustainability of the materials used in their products. It was created in 2011 by a group of industry heavyweights, including H&M, Walmart, Nike, Levi’s, and Patagonia. It is maintained by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) and their technology partner Higg. The SAC has about 250 member brands.

Achieving a WRAP certification is a collaborative approach, working with facilities to ensure they remain in compliance with our 12 Principles. Facilities must be actively engaged, ensuring effective management systems are in place and demonstrating that they can and do fulfill their social compliance obligations.

The Social & Labor Convergence Program provides the tools to capture accurate data about working conditions in global supply chains. This multi-stakeholder initiative replaces the need for repetitive social audits by facilitating data sharing. Reduction in time and money spent on audits; reduction in audit fatigue. It is a comprehensive tool, it covers all data points/questions collected in nearly all other assessments and audit schemes. It also enables comparability. It provides common and comparable data.

ISO refers to International Organization for Standardisation. It is an independent organisation that provides standards in terms of quality, safety, and efficiency of products and services provided by businesses.

The FEM provides manufacturers, retailers, and brands with the most accurate reflection of their company’s environmental footprint. Facilities may use the FEM Communications Toolkit to share verified FEM scores and performance insights with external stakeholders, including business partners, NGOs, and prospective customers in company reports, their websites, and on social media. Using the FEM Communications Toolkit is a reflection of a facility’s commitment to sustainability and sharing trusted, verified information with stakeholders.

The Organic Content Standard (OCS) is a voluntary global standard that sets the criteria for third-party certification of organic materials and chain of custody. This certification makes sure the identity of the organic content is maintained from the farm to the final product.

FSC certification ensures that products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits.
